Start 2018 Organised- We share our top tips

The meals, the kids, the housework, the job... The only way to stay sane is to stay organised! Previously if someone said that to me, I would say fat chance! But the truth is a little bit of time organising and planning makes all the difference.

With this year almost coming to an end, we thought we should share our simple tips that we have been doing to stay organised, and hope you find it useful to start 2018 organised.

Make your bed when you wake up- This may sound like a silly thing to do, but if you make it a point to start the day by making your bed first thing you will feel better about facing your busy day. It is the first successful task you have completed for the day, even thought It’s only a small task, it will give you confidence you can complete and successfully do other activities through your day.

Meal plan- Meal planning is good for many reasons; Save money, save time, eat healthy, less food waste and most importantly less stress! There’s nothing worse then the realisation at 3pm that nothing is planned or prepared for dinner. I have been doing simple and realistic tasks  on a Sunday afternoon to assist for the food week ahead; Cutting of veggies and fruits and storing in freezer, one large dinner dish and some snacks for the girls. These things only take 30-45 mins and have you feeling happier that you are prepared.

Invest in a good noticeboard - I don't know about you but if something I need to do is written in front of my face (and the family) for me to look at and focus on everyday, the chances of me sticking to my daily goals is far greater than if it’s just written on a bit of paper in my handbag. In our kitchen / household we have started using the Justick Mini This is like the hybrid child of an old-fashion pin board / kitchen pantry cupboard where we used to stick invitations and school memos and a whiteboard. Gamechanger! The board uses electro-adhesion technology to allows photos, invitations, recipes, you name it, to just stick without any tape, glue, magnets or pins. Then there’s a clear overlay that then works as your whiteboard! We use ours for daily quotes, To-do lists, shopping lists, birthday party invitations and with the clear overlay we write another notes and daily reminders.

10 min end of day tidy up- At the end of each day take 10mins to tidy. Put a timer on (I use phone alarm) and get everyone in your household to race around the house and tidy up until the timer goes off. You will find that it actually looks pretty good afterward with the team effort. This works well for us, My girls actually race around and tidy they actually find it fun. You can then relax and know the next morning the main items or toys are all tidy to begin your new day.

Finally, Always remember, Tomorrow is another day. Celebrate every organisation accomplishment no matter how small.

Happy Organising!

  4. My housemate makes her bed everyday and I actually admire her for doing it. I probably should try get in the habit , my life can be chaos working from home and it’s meant to help anxiety. Also want to start meal prepping to help me eat better.

  5. You're right about making the bed! When I come home to an unmade bed, I notice I start to let things go more haha. I like doing Sunday meal prep too! If I don't, my week can easily spiral into unhealthy eating.

  7. These are such great tips, ones I really need to implement, especially meal planning! I too often just go meal to meal which leads to bad choices so to be healthier meal prep is definitely one of my new years resolutions!

  9. I have a family diary in the kitchen. The kids know that if its not in the diary it doesn't happen!

This way everyone knows when anyone else in the family has an event and any clashes can be dealt with early.

  11. I always make my bed as I get up. Having a made bed makes everything look way neater. I am also a big believer in quick regular cleans every night. My stepmom used to call them “quick frisks” haha

  12. Such a great idea to tidy for 10 minutes a day, keeping things tidy throughout the week saves a massive mess accumulating by the end of it!
